The duration of locum tenens assignments varies according to each client’s needs and the provider’s availability. An Anesthesiologist or CRNA could be asked to work for one day, several months, or to commit to an assignment for a year or more depending on the need. Locum tenens work allows us to accommodate to your schedule and availability.
This varies according to each facility’s process. Depending on the facility, credentialing can take from one week up to several months in some cases. Your recruiter will be able to give you an estimate on the length of time credentialing takes for the facility you are considering.
We require that providers sign a contract with us so we may represent you for any locum tenens jobs or permanent placement opportunities we share with you. This is how our firm can legally represent you and our clients. We follow the National Association of Locum Tenens Organizations (NALTO) and the National Association of Physician Recruiters (NAPR) ethical and practice guidelines, so you will be assured that we uphold the highest standards in the industry.
Our contract does not require Anesthesiologists and CRNA’s to work exclusively with Vitruvian Medical. However, we recommend that you limit the number of agencies you work with since many large hospitals and groups have contracts with multiple recruiting agencies. It’s best to select a recruiter who you feel is responsive to your needs and with whom you feel a connection. Limit the number of people with your information to hold the recruiter more accountable and to make sure someone is looking out for your best interest. With Vitruvian Medical you can be assured we are working hard for you, and you will know where your personal information is being sent at all times and by whom.

Vitruvian Medical maintains Medical Professional Liability coverage under the following terms:

  • Policy limits of liability are $1,000,000 each claim / $3,000,000 aggregate.
  • Type of policy is claims-made with the option to purchase a multi-year extended reporting tail/period.
Vitruvian Medical provides malpractice coverage to all our providers while they are on locum tenens jobs through us.
Some agencies deduct their malpractice costs from the locum tenens provider’s paycheck. At Vitruvian Medical, malpractice insurance is provided at no cost to our Anesthesiologists and CRNA’s.
In rare cases using your own malpractice insurance may allow us to negotiate a slightly higher rate. However, in most cases it does not make a difference since the client still will require us to use our own malpractice insurance with limits of 1,000,000/$3,000,000.
Locum Tenens providers are paid weekly. At the end of each week worked, providers fax a work log to our payroll department. Paychecks are processed during the next week and issued by the end of that week. Providers have the option of having a check mailed to them or may sign up for direct deposit.
If your locum tenens job is a “traveling” position then yes, travel and accommodations will be covered. Vitruvian Medical will arrange your flights, hotel, and/or rental car before your locum tenens job begins.
Vitruvian Medical’s travel coordinator will work with you to make your travel experience as pleasant as possible. Each provider is requested to fill out a “Travel Preference” sheet which will help your coordinator book your travel and accommodations to your liking.
